Android is open source Linus based operating system led by Google. There are many Android Software Development Kits (SDKs) in the market. But the first version of Android Software Development Kit (SDK) was released in 2007 by Google. It was a beta version. ANDROID 1.0 was the first commercial version released by Google in September 2008.

Latest SDK is ANDROID 6.0 which is named as MARSHMALLOW.

You can find the source code for Android under free and open source software licenses It's code is mostly published under Apache License V 2.0 by Google. And other Linux Kernel changes under the GNU General Public License version 2.
